Overview

Anne & Jonny O'Brien are cycling 10,000 miles around Latin America from Mexico to Buenos Aries via Tierra Del Fuego starting in January 1999 and ending in December. The objectives are to raise money for cancer research, take on an unknown physical challenge and cope with unfamiliar climates, cultures and set backs and successes on the way.We want to demonstrate that this can be done by ordinary people. We also want to share our experiences with others to encourage them to try something similar.

Philosophy and Objectives

• Take a career break and test ourselves physically and mentally.
• Meet and stay with local people and really get into the countries we are cycling through.
• Bring back real impressions of what it is like being on the road in Latin America, through our web site, a digital video diary (shot on a very cute JVC digital video camera), and magazine articles and a book, which we will write on our return.
• Show that normal people can do and expedition like ours with the right (but not the most expensive) equipment and a bit of planning.
